We did not plan our stay in Positano in advance, and with the tourists flooding the small town, we found only one hotel with an available room. But once we inspected the dingy lodgings with a bad shower and poor view, Jozefina made a comment to the owner that ensured we would not get even that.
We were just bemoaning our bad fate on a street corner when an Italian man on a vespa swooshed in. It was Salvatore, the owner of the colorful linen shirt boutique next door, who took us into his air-conditioned store and made some quick phone calls on our behalf. He then grabbed our luggage and carried it down some steep stairs to a room with the most incredible view of the beach and the harbor below. And that is where we stayed in Positano.
